I'm thinking of coming back to the Elise fold - I had an S1 from 1999 through to 2006. I've read some great things about the Honda powered cars (and seen there are plenty of threads on the pros and cons of different engines, etc.), and think that might be a good car for me.

I've done a quick trawl of the classifieds on here, plus elsewhere, and there don't seem to be any Honda S1 Elises for sale - are they still that rare that they don't come up often? Does anybody know of any for sale at the moment.

I'm not ready to move just yet (still selling a couple of other toys to pay for it), but I was hoping there would be a dealer with one for sale, so I could go and try it to see if it's the right car for me...

Any ideas - do any of the guys who do the engine conversions have demonstrators - and would they be happy for me to try one out when I have no intention of buying a conversion, but just want to try the Honda engine?

Any help appreciated,

thanks,
Richard.

My S2 Honda gets serviced at Brooke Kensington in Bicester. They used to have a honda demo car and were happy to let me go for a spin in it a couple of years ago. Give them a ring, Simon there is a great guy.

keep an eye on here and the classifieds on SELOC

quite often they are sold amongs enthusiasts, before they even make the adverts...its a case of knowing whos selling/thinking of selling

there are a few hundred around...but usually when youve spent tens of thousands making your perfect Elise, you dont want to sell it..

As above, you need to constantly check classifieds etc.
Maybe there is some one local who can take you out in it, although every car will differ slightly.
I love my S2 Honda

Thanks bogie - I'm talking to the owner of that one - I'm ideally looking for an S1 Honda, but an S2 might be the next best thing. Especially given that the one of SELOC is supercharged, too!

Maidstone Sportscars in Kent will let you try a demo car, but it might well be one of their top end charged and charge cooled cars.

If you're serious put a wanted ad up on SELOC, start a thread and ask people to contact you if they're thinking of selling. You might be surprised at the responses you get. They aren't completely bomb-proof, but they are utterly addictive.
