I need to change my stack instruments as the one in the car is broke. Speedo needle has fallen off!

Does anyone know if the mileage data is held in the instrument cluster or in the ECU elsewhere? My concern is obviously to have the mileage tie up with the car. Or is this a case of changing the instrument cluster then going to one of these companies that will adjust the mileage on the car??

it's in the cluster itself, so change cluster, change milage.

if it's just the needles fallen off, then just (carefully) remove the glass and push it back on, job done.

I had this happen to my S1 Elise. I thought I'd be able to get into the case or remove the front cover but unfortunately it's bonded together very strongly. Also the needles are stuck on and then the unit is calibrated, the weight of the glue matters. What I did in the end was take it back to Stack Instruments, they are near Oxford, and they replaced it with a reconditioned one that was in stock, transfering all my mileage data, etc across. Not the cheapest option but half the price of going to Lotus. It's quite easy to remove and if you give Stack a ring with the serial number then I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

Pah,

bit of patience with a scalpel the 'glass' comes out easy!

calibration wise, it;s no big deal, they re-set on power on, so long as you have the needle close to right, it will find it's place.

Maybe on yours, impossible on mine since it's not glass.

On my 1998 S1 my speedo needle once didn't want to reset (stayed at 20mph)

I removed the stack, took it apart and put a hairdryer to the glass for a few mins, it softened up the silicone-like glue and I was able to remove the glass very carefully.

I then pulled the needle off and popped it back on again. Worked like a charm for the next 10000 miles till I sold the car. I was quite worried about the glass, but there's a chap on SELOC called "Yasec" who can get you new glass for £20 or something including the painted grey bits so if you do break it, then not the end of the world.

I remebered, I still have this site bookmarked and it helped.

Cheers guys, I've actually got a spare instrument cluster as I was advised it was very difficult to get the glass off.
