I'm thinking very seriously of buying an Elise at the start of next year so I thought I'd get a quick Insurance quote to give me a rough idea of costs.

Just got a quote on Confused.com for the base model S2 Elise, unfortunately I have no NCB but I'm 27 which I would have thought would help with the premium costs. The Cheapest was £1002 with a whopping £3250 excess! (My motor quote.com) The Admiral one came in at £1600 with a £350 excess which is still a bit easier to swallow on the excess but a killer on the actual insurance cost!

I know there's a link to Adrian Flux in this section but I didn't want to waste anyones time as at the moment i don't actually own the car, does this sound normal? If it is going to be the case it might just put a downer on the whole idea frown

Thanks

Paul

Have you got any ncb on another car or none at all? Some insurers mirror ncb.

Check the SELOC wiki for insurers.

Have a look through here

http://wiki.seloc.org/a/Insurance

you should get something a lot more reasonable from a specialist.

Call competition car insurance. In my experience confused.com has been no good in sorting out cheap quotes for the Elise and CCI have been excellent - both my cars are insured with them.

I pay £600 for a 2005 111R with 7,500 miles limited and 6 points in last five years and a couple of hundred quid excess.. But I am 41.

http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/

Great personal service over the last year or so from these.

Thanks guys, I've got no NCB at all, I had a little bump in the ice last year nothing serious but no NCB is no NCB I suppose frown
there's quite a few on the list there stipulating over 25 so at least I'm over the "supposed nutter" age!
If all goes according to plan I'll hopefully have 1 years NCB by then, £3250 excess is mad, that basically sounds like a way of saying "thanks but no thanks" to me

The excess isn't helpful, but it's not a bad headline figure. I'd say they are providing your legal minimum insurance cover, and will ensure you can get another car if you total your Elise, but fir small knocks, you need to settle yourself.... Which is probably how most of us operate anyway. How manypeople on here would put a 500 quid claim through their insurance?

As said before CCI might help, but think they are generally 30 years plus... As are Heritage.

CCI are the lowest i have had by far, they are almost half the price of some quotes i have had and you get 6 track days thrown in.
Adrian Flux being one of those companies that CCI beat by 50%.

I'm with CCI and like you say, cheapest by far. Be aware though, track days are now FIA circuits only and you are not covered third party in other peoples vehicles so if you drive anyone elses car you would need additional cover.

The excess sounds extreme but as another poster has said, all of us are pretty much uninsured for damage to the car below £2,000, as the loss of NCD plus accident record (even if no fault) will mean big hikes in premiums.

But yes, such an excess says no real comp cover, so why not consider TPF&T?

Also, agree to a low mileage use, get it garaged and beware of mods (insurers hate modifications).

Have you tried moneysupermarket.com? They always seem to get great 'new customer only' rates - I used to get a renewal for £250, go to these people and with my own company get £200......

Insurance premiums are a game - go play and don't give up yet.

Forgot to add that their excess was half of the others as well.

Agree.. and if you can do leass than 7.5k miles a year you can get it on a "classic" policy

A little left field this one but as you don't have any NCB you could try AON. They have a specialist policy called the Roadster Policy. I had my Elise S1 with them on this policy, it doesn't need NCB but the down side is it doesn't accumulate any either. I paid way less than £500 at that time including the 6 points I had at that time.

I've moved to others now but only because I got better quotes when my NCB was mirrored (mentioned already).

HTH, if you can't find the contact number let me know and I will see if I can dig it out from my old papers.

Cheers, David

I went through sureterm direct, they didn't want my no claims bonus as they insured it under a classic car policy. I limit my miles to around 3000, they will cover you for more miles though. I'm 29, just me on the insurance and it was £277. Covers for show display, you get to choose who does your repairs, courtesy car etc etc .

Is there a list of FIA circuits?

My first year's insurance on my Exige S in 2006, aged 27 was just over £1000 with no NCB (no accidents either, just classic policies previously), using Elephant IIRC. Maybe give them a try?

Though saying that, Elephant recently quoted over £650 to renew the OH's policy for her Fiat 500, which we later reduced to £250 with Admiral, perhaps they are not as cheap now as they were then.

Slightly random question, but you weren't driving your Clio on the A41 near Chester on Saturday evening were you?

I got a quote for an Exige S last week with a couple of run of the mill insurers and it came out to more than my Cayman S. Huh?
