Wow I’m glad to be back in the fold! I’ve been thinking about coming back for at least 18 months and after 2 weeks I’ve so far been very glad to have made the decision. I picked the car up 2 weeks ago today and did the first 1000 miles by the following Saturday!
Last night I fitted a 2Bular back box – absolute pain to remove the old silencer but very easy to fit the new (good weight saving too) and at midnight I went for a quick run to hear the results – great just what I was looking for little pops and cracks and nice note to suit the car but not too loud – in fact I might go as far to say less droning at cruising revs. Than the standard lotus offering. I will of course be doing the entire exhaust system at some point but as to whether I fit it or someone else does remains to be seen! – anyone else do it themselves?
Engine mounts – after doing a lot of digging I cannot find any useful information regarding stiffer S2 Toyota engine mounts – are there factory approved units and if so are they any good or is it better to go a different path (I’m wary of warranty issues)? This is something I would really like to sort – as I’ve noticed on down changes under heavy braking / heal & toeing engaging gear is somewhat difficult (the engine does leap about a bit doesn’t it)!
I’m considering ordering the Lotus lightweight wheels and putting all round tyres on the v-spoke standards that the car came with. It seems to me that the Lotus forged lightweight items are quite good value for money considering the weight saving in comparison to other offerings and I like the look of them.
The only other things are harnesses I think I prefer the safety devices that were similar to those in the old S1 Exige – anyone had any issues with insurance companies when actually removing the normal seatbelts – or is it best to have both (I will ask mine – but really looking to save weight not gain it!)
I feel a bare lacquered carbon roof coming on at some point too, along with carbon side scoops and rear wing! The only other ‘extra’ I’m thinking about as has been mentioned by others is a rear-view camera – again to be able to see who’s behind me not for parking – one thought I had is would it be possible to mount it in the rear centre light (obviously this would have to be chopped about a bit but I would hope only modification to the light itself and nothing to the body work as mounting near the number plate would mean heat and weather problems?

That’s all for now…..

Plenty of posts about Powerflex engine mounts over on Seloc.
As for harnesses, i bought one of these: http://www.msar-safety.com/detail.asp?p=83&o=S... and some of these: http://www.msar-safety.com/detail.asp?p=73&o=L... which allows the use of both seat belts and harnesses smile
