Hi Guys, I need the collective wisdom of the PH Lotus fraternity. I shall hopefully be in the position of being able to purchase an Elise at the end of this month. 'Hurrah', I hear you say. I've driven one, loved it and I know that I shall be looking for an S2 around £18k and 18k miles, or less.

Now, do you guys know of a decent Elise specialist around Cambridge. Also, when purchasing a car like this, is it seen as resonable to take the vehicle to be inspected for damage / problems at a specialist before the deal is clinched?

Thanks in advance.

I know quite a few people who have met up at Sinclaires and paid for an inspection prior to handing over their cash. They are in Essex though - Jc28 on M25. About an hour or so from Cambridge. Only place nearer I know of is Castle Lotus at Stansted....although I think there is a specialist in Cambridge but i cant remember the name. If its a private sale then its worth paying an hours labour or so to put your mind at rest IMHO

Never been to them so can't comment on good/bad, but the previous owner of mine bought it from new at Haydon Daytune of Cambridge.

A quick search on Google threw up...
HAYDON DAYTUNE LTD Coldhams Road, Cambridge, CB1 3EW 01223 211889

Hope this is of some help, welcome , and best of luck - you won't regret it!

P.S. If you're buying from a dealer you should expect the car to be in tip top nick and to come with a warranty. If buying private, a specialist check is worth every penny - don't bother with AA or RAC.

I know s2 prices are down, but 18k for one from a dealer would be good going!

Elite is the place you want to go to. Its in Foxton, just before the railway crossing. The bloke is lovely, a real lotus enthusiast. He had a fair range last time I went past (and a 340R in the bodyshop).
I think Elite used to be Haydon, they certainly used to be based in Coldhams Lane and have recently moved out to Foxton

Elite in Foxton are great, they only sell used cars, but Terry the owner only buys top-notch cars and his attention to detail on preparing them is great. I had my S2 serviced there last week and I can't praise them enough - it felt like a new car afterwards.

Hello - I live in St. Neots near Cambridge.

I went to CD Bramall in Leicestershire. It is about 65 miles away but they had a good selection of cars.

This is a decision I don't think you'll regret.

We've sold them at £18k albeit 2001/Y with 30k miles.

One with sub 20k miles at a dealer will almost certainly command a £1k premium.

Thanks for all the useful feedback guys. The 18k price from a dealer would be pushing it, although 18k cash up front might be able to oil the works, as it were. However, I think that it's more likely that I could get the car I'm looking for from a private sale. I just would like the peace of mind of having a specialist look over it. Once again, many thanks!

In the meantime you could tell me what I have got to look forward to in the coming months!
