I currently own a TT and I am beginning to want something a bit more special. The problem is I am 6ft2 and "big boned" (or fat some might say). Will an Elise be too small. I am rather reluctant to go to the dealers and then get stuck getting into or out of the car. Can someone give me an idea on the size compared to a TT or a S2000. I am used to getting into small spaces as I also own a TVR Vixen.

Thanks James

You should be fine - I know people who are 6'6 who drive Elises. the only issue you may find is that on trackdays with your helmet on you may need to have the roof off.

The seat goes back far enough for tall drivers - some find that they need a quick shift (adjustable) shorter gear lever so that they can set up up so its over to the left more (and clears your leg)and also a removable steering wheel with a larger boss to bring the wheel closer.

Other than that get some driving shoes so you feel the pedals easier (they are quite close together and small) and you should be fine

James. You'll be fine once in...its just getting in. We all look like tits to start with so just pluck up the courage and get into the dealership and have a try.

You could try your local meet and have a chat with local owners and try to get in theirs.

And like Bogie says, keep an eye on your helmet

Thanks for the replies. I once banged my helmet getting into someones cerbera now I am more careful with it.

Can anyone compare the elise with the S2000. A friend has the honda and there is no way I could drive that safely the drivers area appears to be tiny.

its smaller than the S2K - with 2 6ft blokes in there say 14-18stone each you will be touching shoulders and also the passenger will have to turn their legs to the right a little so that you can change gears without rubbing their leg all the time !

where are you based - if you just want to have a sit/ride in one then sure theres someone local who would take you for a spin

You've got to be careful with your helmet.

Here are pics of my interior so you can get a "rough" idea as to space. I cant say how it compares to Spoon's finest though

Mustard! your needed (he'll know

You'll be alright - might find getting your legs under the wheel a bit of a fag tho.

A pic of mine which is from a slightly different angle (any excuse )....

...and one of me (5'11) and my old man (6'3)

You do almost touch shoulders but it's not cramped... snug at worst! I know what you mean about the S2000 - lovely cockpit, everything is very well designed to fit close to the driver. In the Elise you'll find it's much more open, simply because you don't have that big transmission tunnel and also it's so stripped out - only what absolutely needs to be in there is in there.

Get out there and try one mate

Right then I had better get myself down to the dealers then. I have my eye on this.

Any tips on getting in would be welcome.

Drop the window and push the seat all the way back, then any gorilla can get in and out.

quality interior mr S and that looks like a minter, James

anyway, to get in:

stick one leg in, sit on the sill and slide along until you pop in and then pull your other leg in.

Looks nice James - enjoy the test drive, tell us what you think and some more about the car when you're done.

Chrome Orange is a great colour - you won't be missed in that little beaut... oh and welcome to the board by the way

I visited the dealers this weekend and have found that I do fit and it wasn't that dificult getting in or out, at least with the roof off. The bad news is that I have £4000 negative equity in the TT. Who said that Audi's keep their value.

The chrome orange car is for sale at £15450 with 27K miles. I think this is fairly expensive similar cars seem to go for closer to £13K privately.

I got a finance qoute and they want a £2K deposit plus £430 a month which is a stupid amount of money. I think I will have to buy privately and go for a personal loan.

James that finance quote is utter pants - get a loan. I pay £300ish on a 13k loan over 48months. If I choose to sell the car then there's no hassle with finance companies etc and the APR will beat the nuts off anything a dealer can offer you.

Test drive a few and if the prices at dealers are too much just get yourself clued up, find one privately and pay a few ££'s to a Lotus specialist to get it checked over before you buy... peace of mind for less wallet-ache!
