Elise 111S or 111r?
Discussion
You could maybe tune yours if it made more financial sense, not everyones cup of tea though.
I bought an R earlier in the year and it does make a good noise when revved but i rarely get the chance to get it in that zone on the roads even with the cam switch point lowered.
I dont mind driving it lower down the rev range to be honest, i dont feel it lacking.
I dismissed the S as i didnt really fancy the idea of the K series even though its a good engine and probably the best choice for general road use.
I think i read a comparison where the S was a more pleasant driving experience up to its red line and then the R took over which is obviously understandable but then your into silly speeds.

Hi there
I am also considering an S or an R. The R I understand and get that.
But the S I have some questions, when looking at adverts some seem to say 135HPish and some 155HPish, why is this? Is one a Rover and one Toyota? What model year did they get the Toyota engine and what was the factory power output of the Rover S and Toyota S please?

The 111S is a Rover K series with variable valve timing and 156bhp sold up to about 2005.I am also considering an S or an R. The R I understand and get that.

The S badge was later used in around 2008 for a car with a 134bhp 1.8 litre Toyota 1ZZ-FE. That entry level model was later replaced with a 1.6 litre Toyota 1ZR-FAE with similar power, though I can't remember if S badging was ever used on that engine.
The S badge was used one more time from 2011 when it was put on a car with a 1.8 supercharged 2ZR-FE with 217bhp.
2002-2005 Elise 111S - Rover K series - 156bhp
2008 - 2010 Elise S - Toyota 1ZZ-FE - 134bhp
2011 onwards - supercharged Toyota 2ZR-FE - 217bhp
