Mildly Interesting Car Hire - Dublin
Discussion
I'm visiting Ireland in September with a guy I work with. (I'm a specialist brain injury support worker). He used to work in Ireland around 10-15 years ago and has fond memories of the place, and this will be his first holiday abroad since an accident 10 years ago that caused his injuries. He's also a massive petrolhead.
We're planning on flying into Dublin, then hiring a car (no additional mobility requirements) and driving down to Southern Ireland to visit some of the areas he used to work in, bit of a memory lane road trip situation.
If possible, I'm trying to organise hiring something a bit more interesting than a Sixt Kia Sportage as a bit of an extra treat, however I'm not having a lot of joy finding much.
Do we have any dublin-based PH'ers who happen to know of any local companies who might be able to help me?
Long shot I'm aware but worth a punt! I'll be the sole driver, 39y/o male with a clean full UK licence and no claims or convictions, so nothing tricky from an insurance perspective.

I think you’re going to struggle I’m afraid. There used to be a crowd who rented out performance cars, but the recession and the negative reaction to one of their 348s ending up on its roof in rush hour traffic seems to have put paid to that
Only alternative I’ve heard of are these (never used them myself): https://courtyardclassiccars.com/
Other option is fly into Belfast and get something there, then drive down if that’s allowed on the agreements? Don’t know who these are, but might be worth a call and see if that’s an option: https://royalrental.co.uk/rentals/george-best-belf...
Would you consider bringing your own car and getting the ferry across instead?

Yeah I've come to that conclusion myself really. Supercar type things wouldn't really have been practical but I've struggled to even find anything like a Range Rover, just to make the trip a bit special.Only alternative I’ve heard of are these (never used them myself): https://courtyardclassiccars.com/

It's obviously quite close now so i've booked a 5 series or similar through a generic rental firm, it'll do the job!
I'd absolutely bring my car but it's in too many pieces at the minute, I need to update my thread hahah.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, appreciated.

No problem, and enjoy the trip. If you need any recommendations for places for food, etc let me know, although it sounds like you know where you’re goingIt's obviously quite close now so i've booked a 5 series or similar through a generic rental firm, it'll do the job!
