Discussion
When I plug it in I now get "USB Device not recognised"
This thing used to work. I have reloaded teh TomTom Home software. Have reset the device several times, all to no avail.
Can someone please help me sort it. I Have a cool route planned for Le Mans, setting off Thursday morning.
thanks...

OK - lets go!
So have you done a PIN reset on it ? Does it have the pin on the bottom of the unit near the USB connector need something fine like a paperclip / needle to reset it. Push and hold for 15 secs unplug the usb cable before doing it then plug it back in.
do try this a couple of times... let me know i'll wait for your response and give you other things that can be done.

it functions in all respects as it should - until I plug it in to my laptop for updates and to load my Le Mans itinerary files. When I plug it in to the laptop it detects this, and presents me with the "connect to computer"? question, offering yes / no buttons. Pressing "yes" then presents the sceen showing the picture of a TomTom connected to a laptop, however the laptop doesn't recognise it as a TomTom, giving the device error message. The TomTom does not appeaer as any kind of device under the My Computer folder in Windows Explorer. It really is bugging me now. 48 hours. Before I set off to Le Mans

Dave - have you tried it on another PC/Laptop
What operating system do you have Windows XP / Vista / Win7?
Vistas not that great for the Tomtoms... at the end of the day all you need is for the TomTom to display as a USB Hard drive within my computer and you can manually place the files in relevant folder.
Where abouts in Hants are you?

My 530 does that when plugged into my home PC , it says something like ' a USB device has malfunctioned'. But when I fire up tomtom home it sees it and still works. On my laptop the tomtom will only work with one particular USB port, stick it in any other and it just wont play.
If you call tomtom support they will tell you to try a factory reset on the device, and if that doesnt work they will tell you to format it and reinstall the software. I can tell you now, this is their standard advice for ANY problem, it can take hours to get the unit up and running again and in my case it didnt fix the problem.
