i have had a garmin forerunner 205 for several years now and in the not too distant future i'll probably replace it (it has seen better days...). trouble is, you can get a 205 for about £80-90 now which, frankly, is superb value for money considering what it does. i've had a look at the 610 and seems a much improved version of the 410 (i've not heard great things about the bezel interface, and the fact it can't be switched off) so would either go for another 205 or the whole hog 610.

couple of questions though:

can it still do the dotted map as you run? (if so, can you scroll the map...you can't on a 205 and it's really annoying as you have to zoom right out to see the map, but then it's too small!!!)

it can definitely be switched off right, unlike the 405?

if i think of anything else i'll ask biggrin

thanks guys

Consider yourself lucky, I'm still using my Garmin GPS 12: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=87

No maps, just waypoints and co-ords! Would go on ebay for £60, but would never sell it.

Here's the manual for the 610: http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/Forerunner_610_O...

It mentions switching off the device, but doesn't say how. If does show you how to turn off the GPS though.
