Which budget sat nav?

My sister is after a basic sat nav, and I was all set to get her a lower-range Tom Tom until reading a few threads slating the brand. She'll only be using it in the UK, and it really just needs to be able to guide her from A to B reliably. Would I be better off getting her a Garmin? Something else?

Any basic tom tom or garmin will do the job. I bought my garmin nuvi nearly 4 years ago. Its still going strong and I haven't had it send me down any railroad tracks yet.
The latest maps and lane assist are not necessarily what someone just going from a to b needs so don't feel like you are missing out by not getting these.

the cheapest tomtom you can get, just make sure it's current maps.

Does she have an iPhone? NavFree works well for me. Some people like Waze, both will do the job.

I often use Nav Free but it sent me on a complete odd route on the way down to Bournemouth a few weeks back. Some did it in 5 hrs but me? 7!!! I was not amused. I think we passed through every small village in southern England.

Cheers guys. I initially decided to go for the Tom Tom Start 20, then at the last minute went for a Start 25, as the bigger screen seemed like a handy feature for the extra £20.
