Too good to be true?

After an incident today where a kind lorry driver prevented me from being caught by a mobile speed trap (flashed his lights when I was doing around 48 in a 40 dc), I'm thinking it may be wise to invest in some kind of detection system. My sat nav has speed camera locations built in but obviously does not detect radar/laser traps of the type I encountered today.
After a quick browse online, I came across the snooper 3zero which seems fantastic, as not only does it claim to use gps camera data like my tomtom, it can also detect all types of european radar/laser traps, and presumably camera vans.
At £150 it seems fairly cheap for what it is, and as I'll be doing a lot of driving around europe later this year it seems like it might be worth my while getting one.
Are they as good as they claim to be though? I don't want to spend £150 on something that doesn't actually work.

The problem with laser detectors is that generally if they go off you've already been caught. I also assume that all of these speed detection signs will trigger radar detectors (can anyone confirm?). Then there are the DS2 semi permanent cameras, that use sensors in the road, so you'll may only get a NIP if there is a camera van hooked up to it.
I was originally looking at the Snooper3Zero, but after a lot of research, showing up the points above, I opted to go for a Pogo Alert+, which is a GPS based system, with a laser add on (which hasn't been triggered yet). I have set it to alert me to sites where the mobile cameras are usually sited, so I can know to take extra care.

I have a 3zero in the Mustang and wouldn't be without it. It has a GPS database and gives warnings of camera locations and known mobile locations.
I accept all the arguments about the laser only going off after being hit by the laser gun, but it has alerted me to guns being used from bridges on the A11 which makes you more cautious and aware of their presence next time you are in the area.
It can be too sensitive to automatic sliding doors at garages near your route but that's a minor annoyance, used in conjunction with a TomTom loaded with Pocketworld GPS scamera site I reckon its good insurance..
Sadly will have to be left at home on the trip to France.

Hmmm, interesting...... I've been doing some more research and it seems that if I was to buy a detector such as the 3zero, and install it in conjunction with some "parking sensors" such as the Laser Elite that happen to operate on the same frequency as police laser, and therefore happen to block it, I'd stand very little chance of being caught?
I'm aware they're all illegal in france, but currently in the UK they're allowed unless they can prove you're using such devices to purposely block the laser.
To be honest, I'm not really someone who speeds everywhere, (although you may not believe it reading this!) but next year I'll be doing a lot of driving in unfamiliar areas, and combine that with the fact that I'm a new driver and would lose my licence if I got 6 points (plus the huge increases in insurance), I'm wondering if investing in both a radar/laser/gps detection system plus some "parking sensors" may be a good idea. After all, they can be transferred between vehicles so could be thought of as a long-term invesment, unless of course they're all outlawed in the UK!

You may not get caught for speeding but when the operator sees the error message indicating that it's being jammed you may find yourself in bother for something else.Geekman said:

Well according to what I have read, they have to prove that I was knowingly using the device to jam the laser, and as they're fully functioning parking sensors I think they'd find that very difficult to prove. From what I've read on the supplier website, there is no risk of them being able to prosecute you for using them, although they would say that......Riley Blue said:

It does, but although I keep it updated, on the rare occasion I've seen a speed trap, it hasn't been marked on the sat navGassing Station | In-Car Electronics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
