TomTom advice/help needed
Discussion
Hi,
I've got a TomTom One XL unit a couple of years old, UK/Ireland map only and been working fine.
Background: For a recent Euro trip I borrowed my brothers TomTom unit with relevant maps and needed the ability to upload navfiles for points of interest routes. It worked well, so I've decided to purchase the central Europe map for my One XL (the website kindly informed me my unit didn't have sufficient memory for the full European map). Purchase and download went smoothly.
Problem: When I started the upload (to the One XL unit) after the purchase, my unit crashed and I had to do a full reformat which wiped everything off and re-built it, however I now only have the central Eruope map and no UK/Ireland. I can't see the UK/Ireland map in my TomTom home programme for me to add it back to the unit.
Anyone able to advise what / how to retrieve my original map and add it to the unit?

Clever techie peeps???
glenrobbo takes a very quick step backwards.
Road Atlas / Michelin maps for me Max.
And a bold hi-lighter for waypoints.
And a laminated diagram of Spa.
Somebody will be along soon, just stand there with your thumb out.
See what I mean?
I started off in 'S' Series forum & immediately end up lost in Satnavs!
P.S. I borrowed a European Satnav but it only did cement works!

I'm not a techie, just the user of a TomTom XL V1. I wonder if the upload failed because the TomTom ran out of memory. Mine was originally UK&I only, but the map files have got bigger over the years, so I had to buy an SD card to take both UK&I and Western Europe maps (the software actually loads the maps on the SD card, not on the TomTom).I've got a TomTom One XL unit a couple of years old, UK/Ireland map only and been working fine.

Edited to add: The missing map will be in the back up you made before uploading the new files. You did make a back up didn't you?...

I think that very much depends if the unit crashed before the back-up completed (I think it did); and my unit unfortunately doesn't have an SD card slot, it's all internal memory (backward steps that appear with each newer unit; the latest units don't allow navfile uploads - progress, eh?).Edited to add: The missing map will be in the back up you made before uploading the new files. i don't think the memory space is the issue as the website helpfully advised insufficient memory on the complete Europe map i attempted to purchase 1st.
I'll have a scout around for a previous back up on my lap top / external hard drive, but i'm not hopeful.
does anyone know how to contact/speak to TomTom - i couldn't see any way previously as i recall.
Cheers,
Max
do you have a backup? The usual advice is to have a backup you created manually using Windows Explorer (or similar) not the TomTom Home version (but the latest TomToms don't give you that option)
It is worth searching the TomTom forum on Pocket GPS World
