Sat nav data - what does a sat nav device store?

I'm looking for an example of the kinds of raw data held in a sat nav. Can anyone help please? I'm looking to find out what type of info is stored and in what format. Can this data be downloaded onto a PC?

No one really, I'm just interested.

I sometimes work with raw tracker/telematics data and am curious about what comes out the back of a sat nav.

I don't own one myself to be able to experiment.

It varies from model to model and manufacturer to manufacturer. For your query, I'd suggest starting by looking at what Tomtology can retrieve.
