After market map upgrades
Discussion
After getting lost around Ramsgate my son bought me an aftermarket map upgrade disc for the satnav in my 2005 Mercedes SLK. It came from www.satnavi.com.
A neighbour who owns an E-Class said that these after-market discs can give 'major problems' which can shut down the Command system. This sounds like an urban myth to me and I'm not sure the Americans landed on the Moon.
The disc is entitled V12.0 NTG1. I've got a 2005 171 350.
I'm ignorant about satnavs and don't even know how to update my database. However, anyone know anything about these 'major problems'?
Further, wasn't there a court case recently about map updates being restricted and that one souldn' thave to go back to the OEM?

I can't comment on the disk you refer to, but I bought an upgrade DVD for my E class '58 Merc from here

Much cheaper than an OEM, and it installed and worked fine. My pal also bought one for his '04 SL, and it installed and worked in that also.
