Small euro road trip gumball 3000 preparation sat nav!
Discussion
Hi there all you pistonheads
This is my first post on here so ill start of by throwing a big question about which is the best sat nav to use across the whole of Europe? As I will be taking part in this years gumball 3000, and of my sat nav in my Audi R8 it's ok but at times it does get me into trouble especially in and around Spain for some unknown reason. Any recommendations would be idea!

Why worry, the Rally isn't going to Spain. And as for being issued official sat navs, it never happened when I did the Gumball, although that was 9 years ago. Part of the fun, was getting lost.

I have only driven through Spain and France in my car so I wouldn't know if the nav will behave itself in other countries. And as for being issued official sat navs, it never happened when I did the Gumball, although that was 9 years ago. Part of the fun, was getting lost.
I shall see what goodies they give me in the pack.
Gumball tracker? Isn't that just bait for the authorities to get there hands on that?
I did Gumball last year, and will be hoping to do it again on the next trip (convoy to Copenhagen?). Although I haven't tied that up but fingers crossed it can be arranged.
In recent years they don't give out much by way of route instructions; and certainly don't give us actual devices. At each stop along the legs you get given a route card with the most basic of instructions so it certainly helps to have a good idea where you're going but to be honest you will always be driving in a small group and you'd hope someone knows the way! When you get to the right part of each city you can just follow the crowds too that spread out a long way before hand or ask somebody on the road side.
If I'm doing it in my R8 Spyder, I will most likely run on just the built in device, potentially with a camera/radar detector of sorts to back it up and a passenger who's phone can load Google Maps (every problem solved!). Without double-checking yet, I'm pretty sure our cars do all the countries, we just need to do a disc swap to the other one that came with the car as we get further East.
The goodies you get tend to be more along the lines of clothing, sunglasses, driver's jacket etc, nothing actually relevant to the driving, pretty fun bag though - just leave space in the car for it!
For what it's worth, I see you sometimes in London, mine is blue with 87 TB. Feel free to fire any more Gumball related questions at me, or via a private message in my profile.
Have fun!

Hey Shmee, glad to hear from you. Want to start of by saying the supercar kids mag is a great read.
I did catch your YouTube video of last years rally looked awesome.
Yep if your in and around the Mayfair (London) area then yes that is the beast always parked up.
It is a very early R8 so I would think soft wear update is due? If there even is such thing.
Convoy would be ideal. I'm not very technical minded in regards radars etc etc so the more info the better. PM me with details.
Many thanks.

. There's way of tracking teams online so always thought Gumball issue standard equipment for that and then teams would add whatever on top of it.
