Route Planning which Garmin?

I have been on quite a few european road trips and never been able to plan my route and up load it to my Tomtom. I cycled from London to Paris last year and used a Garmin edge 705 and I uploaded my own routes.
Do all Garmin "car" satnavs allow you to do this? eg, upload GPX files.
I would like a 4:3 screen, and i would think lifetime updates would be good, price is always a issue, so cheap options would be good.
Any help would be great

Similar question from me ,I currently have a Zumo 660, which allows you to upload a route to the unit from the computer, but I no longer need a waterproof one, so was thinking of selling my 660 and getting a slimmer one for my car, but I also need one with this ability, anyone know if the current Garmins still support this?
