What TomTom for custom maps?

I have to buy a TomTom, but want to input my own custom maps (Europe) and use it with 3rd party software (tyre), can someone recommend a medium price device?

PS: I am open to other manufacturers suggestions. (I don't really like the TomTom company, but the market seems limited)

Just not the latest ones. If in any doubt ask how many "Waypoints" it can handle. Any less than 48 look elsewhere. My TomTom is an XL. iPhone also not compatible.

ETA - I also use a Garmin Zumo which works fine. Not as fine tuned as the TomTom but works fine.

I would love to know what SatNav handles many waypoints. I tried calling Garmin, twice for a combined total of 28mins... gave up as I couldn't take the muzak anymore. As for TomTom, they don't even publish a UK pre-sales number.

Your TomTom XL. I assume it does +48 waypoints. Can you upload custom maps to it, or do you have to use the TomTom interface?

I use the Tyre program. Create route on pc using the google maps within Tyre and save complete file to sat nav.

Thanks for that link; at least I know what devices allow custom maps. This kind of information has so far been impossible to find out via Tom Tom's website. So thanks for that.

I quite like the look of the new Tom Tom Go series except some idiot in their R&D dept decided to make it a requirement that you tether it to your smartphone... So I'll dig around and see if I can find an older model that will suffice for custom maps.
