OK, background. I have been an Origin Blue, followed by Road Angel Professional Connected for years. The Road Angel battery was buggered, so I opend it up, changed the battery but have apparently hurt the speaker which is now very quiet (damnit)
So replacements I have looked at / read about / am testing are:
CamerAlert (Android)
Cobra iRadar (Android + Hardware)
Waze (Android)
Tom Tom (Android App)
The problem with the Road Angel is that it knows where you are (approximately) but doesn't know what road you are on - so it alerts you to cameras pointing in your approximate direction that are in your area - we should be able to do better than that
Cobra iRadar - seems to need the hardware to work as it does nothing with just the app. Given that I am trying to test the GPS / Mapping bits and consider the radar / laser detector (the later useless) as a bonus makes testing this a bit difficult. They chunter a lot about the Aura database - but I can't find out much about it
TomTom - seems to do what it says on the Tin - spots the fixed cameras on my route, and warns about some of the same spots the the RA warns about for mobiles - but I have no idea just how accurate that is likely to be
Waze - just downloaded based on this forum, will try it out next week.

Anyone have any practical view on these #- I have noticed some +ve comments about Waze - do people still think the same since mid last year?
