So I have seen this in a car in the part where they had fitted a digital aerial stuck to the windscreen as a way to get a better radio signal.

I have an 04 car and mostly listen to MW but over the last few months it seems to be getting progressively worse in terms of sound quality even to the point if the car is in too lowa gear and starts to rumble a bit it affects the radio as does the rain and it starts to fuzz out periodically.

It is starting to get on my nerves as there are some areas I get 0 reception and resort to either CDs or USB.

I am not that well versed with ICE but I did change the stereo to a double din style some years ago but it has never been out since. I did have to add some kind of adapter to the aerial lead to make it fit but I can't remember the reason why.

My questions are

1) is it worth checking if the current aerial/wiring has starting to perish (is it even likely?) and replace as required
2) is it possible it is a fault with the stereo or perhaps just the lead coming apart
3) is it possible to have a digital aerial? What kind would I need and would I need some kind of adapter to fit it into the stereo?

Am I right in assuming this would require the replacement of the aerial and the base rather than just the aerial mast?

Will need to replace the wiring or is it just aerial change? Not sure where the issue is coming from with poor reception if it is the aerial itself or the wiring

Yes it would need an additional DAB aerial cable and a 12v power supply. I would only buy that if you need DAB

The first thing I'd do is remove the radio and check the condition of the connections. Also check where the aerial cable meets the mast and check for any corrosion or damp.

I only really want to have better radio signal, usually only listen to MW over FM. I am not sure if the stereo that I have would support DAB.

Looking at videos the mast & aerial can be removed which on other cars has shown wear/corrosion - If that is the case I assume it is just a case of replacing the mast, however if the issue is further that would mean replacing the base and rewire?

The aerial mast is usually built into the base, and the cable connected directly into that.

Without seeing pics or knowing the make/model its difficult to advise.

Just buy a DAB/FM splitter. I have one and it works fine. They're about £20 on ebay.
They're the next best thing to a dedicated DAB antenna on the roof.

I believe I may have already bought a splitter when I installed the thing.

I think it was something like this http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stere... but looking on the halfords website there seems to be a number of different versions.

I will take out the stereo and make sure the connections are all still good at the back to see if that improves anything but I just want to be able to listen to the radio without interference or losing it all together.
