Best App/Sat Nav to plot and follow route?

Off on a road trip around France in 2 weeks. Have plotted a route using good old pen and paper but I'm confused as to the best way to pre-plot the route into my phone (app) or Sat Nav?

If you plot the route on Via Michelin it apparently only loads the start and finish points into a Sat Nav.
Waze is apparently useless for plotting a route.
I assume it's not possible to plot a route via Google maps on a phone?

Is the only real option to fork out for a Sat Nav and load the route via something like tyres?

I'd think using Google maps is your best bet.

You could plot your route and use each landmark or point of interest as a "stop" along your route. This should also take into account traffic on the day and get you to each landmark in the quickest time possible.
