Hi all, I have a small 500w pillar drill in the back of the van I would like to run off an inverter. My friend put his 1500w modified wave on it and it just pulsed. What size would I need to get this to run?
Would this work?

I don’t know for sure but as you have had no other replies I thought I would answer.
The one you link to is also a modified wave inverter so would have the same problem as the one you tried. I think your issue is not the power rating of the inverter but it is due to the modified wave not being compatible with your drill motor.

I assume the pillar drill is 3 phase and that you are looking to run it from a single phase supply. If this is th encase you need a 1 ph in 3ph out 0.55kw inverter drive. This will allow you to input 1ph and get a 3ph output to run the motor. There is an alternative which is to use a rotary inverter which do not tend to be very reliable and cost a fortune to run.

It runs off a 1ph 16amp style mains plug. The specs on the side states it pulls 500w 2.7amp so not a high currant draw. On this basis I was a little surprised it wouldn't run on a 1500w invertor.

as jkh112 pointed out, motors often don't like running on modified wave inverters. You need a pure sine wave inverter.
