2014 Honda CR-V nav update help

My brother in law has just bought a 2014 Honda CR-V exclusive

The mapping in the nav is very old (never been updated I fear) and he asked if it can be updated.

First issue is trying to find which head unit it is - I think it is a HDD version, Honda and its website is really no help.

So does anyone recommend where to buy the update and give us some advice

You can get unofficial update discs on eBay. Nothing newer than 2018 though.

How about investigating Apple CarPlay/Android Auto or a new double DIN headset such as an Xtrons?

He does not want to replace the head unit - but he quite likes the idea of apple car play - can you get it on an older system? I have only used factory option apple car play
