Hi all,

it me again..

I'm looking to buy a good budget friendly cam for my new car please.

I have had a look at Halfords and the cams are over £100 with the cheapest front and rear camera £129 and then £80 for fitting.

I personally think it is too much, please your suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Iiwey from Amazon, have various models across our fleet- all have been completely reliable - much more so than the other more expensive I have had over the years.

You can get apps for your phone so for the £10 or so for a dash mount and £10-20 for the app you could have a great solution. I haven’t tried them but interested to see if anyone else has?

There are some reputable Chineseum brands on Amazon for dashcams:

70mai
Red Tiger
Viofo
Vantrue

I'd rather buy a bash-the-keyboard-named Chinese no brand than Nextbase.

Got a Road angel Halo bullet type.

Works well, decent app and got it for around £60 new off eBay from a store and it's been faultless so far.

Basic model but it does the job

Got a couple of Orskey dash cams (Amazon) for wife’s and daughter’s cars and they’ve both been pretty good .

Currently on there for £40 a pop.

Got the hardwire kits too, currently £17 each and wired them in myself (Adam and a Fiesta).

Loads of how to’s on YouTube and it’s pretty straightforward.

The hardwire is just for power?

There was noise of Google implementing this as part of their "personalised safety" app.

Not sure what happened to it.

Yes, just for power to unit.

Powers up on ignition and stops the need to be powered off the auxiliary socket (fag lighter socket if you’re old school like me).

Keeps wires nice and tidy too as you dress them into head liner.
Again not too difficult and makes it all look that bit better.

The Garmin Dash Cam 47’s are £79.99 on Amazon at the moment.
Have one in my wife’s car already, ordered one for mine, which arrives today.
Seem pretty decent for the money.
A lot of inbuilt bings & bongs which can easily be switched off (my car does that safety stuff anyway..)
I have a Garmin Mini2, which i’ll move to the rear on mine.
Apparantly you can merge the views on the app, will try that!

Had this for over a year now:

https://amzn.eu/d/bTX3t1R

Front image is excellent, rear is OK.
The few times ive taken footage off (usually if ive spotted an interesting car) it's been quick and easy onto my phone via the app.
(In comparison, the nextbase one in my wife's car takes aeons)

I have it hard wired and have the time-lapse parking mode enabled for 12h after shutting off, which is enough for most times it is parked up anywhere other than my own drive.
