PH Collective,

I realise this is probably a bit of a stretch but I've exhausted all other channels I can think of.

Having now relocated to Dubai (note to self: update profile!) and brought my trusty old Tom Tom 700 I'm having no luck with the Tom Tom website on maps for the UAE.

Does anyone know of the existence of portable sat nav systems that work here please?

(Having said that, things change and move around so quickly here that updates would be needed every week or so!)

Cheers,

V.

have discovered similar.

seems that no one makes a realistic satnav device that can take maps for any country. Having to buy a new "local" one myself.

Perhaps try an electrical store in town??

Well if you is runnin a TomTom like wot I is you is in luck wid Singa, 'cos for sum reesin them maps is avaylible!!!

If not then tough titties old bean.

Yes, I'm gonna have to hit the malls on Saturday, which in fact is the only day of the week that coincides with the normal week, i.e. Sunday is the normal Monday, Monday is Tuesday and so on until Friday which (their sabbath) is the normal Sunday which is followed by Saturday (???!!!), if you follow me.
silly

Anyway, yes, I have finally resurfaced.
I got your last Skype chat about them trying to stitch you contractually and I hope you sorted them.
I couldn't reply 'cos the packers were circling me in a menacing and hungry manner.

But bugger it, Etisalat the UAE telecomms monopoly with the 'rulers' (ha ha ha) of UAE have stopped the great thing that is Skype in order to grab more revenue of us poor expats!!!
I'm looking into solutions all the time.
As it stands though they even block email to the Skype 'contact us' help thingy on the website.

Cheers the ahem... fix JD. bounce

I'll give it whirl this evening. :brimming with enthusiastic optimism:

I'll reply to your email a bit later, once I've shaken off these horrible Monday morning (i.e. Sunday) symptoms!

mouth feeling like a cammel's nether regions ...

Indeed, in fact verification confirmed.
I feel bleedin' worse this morning!
Cutting a long one short, found suitable place over weekend, but lots of competition.
Got told yesterday we lost by a nose, missus distraught etc.
Last evening upped me budget and got dragged all over the place looking at villas.
Some were truly gorgeous. Shortlisted two.
On way back to hotel, phone call, the one we lost was back on!
After all that.
Last night... celebration, hence feeling worse today!!!

I trust you haven't had to deal with such crap.

As for leaving the missus to do the packing, I did that when we left Moscow in November.
Trust me, it was more than my life is worth to do it to her again leaving Delhi, I had to pitch in.
Still, it was relatively painless-ish.

I hope Ted doesn't mind me using this thread as a sort of mailbox!
