I'm due to go for a lad's week away in Ireland on my BMW RT1100 motorbike and was planning on taking the Tom Tom. However, the only available power to keep the Tom Tom charged would need to come from the BMW unique cigarette lighter socket (this is not your standard socket). I've tried to find a power accessory for the Tom Tom to connect to this with no luck at all. At the moment it's looking like I'll have to try and cobble something together myself!!! Does anyone know if there is such an accessory out there? If so - please point me in the right direction.....

Be VERY careful about cobbling something together. The cigar lighter plug has a voltage regulator in it. If you cut that out of circuit in any way you'll frazzle the Tomtom.

What you need is a conventional cigar lighter socket. Wire this to a 12V supply and plug the normal Tomtom power lead into it. If you can't get one I have some spares send me an email or a private message if you want one.

Thanks for the tip. I have now bought an adaptor that converts the BMW socket to a normal socket that will allow me to plug my Tom Tom without the need to cobble anything. Had I not received the information and advise you and others have given me I'm sure I'd now in a pocession of an ex-Tomtom.
