It also seems to want to get to know my phone

Trafic update is via phone on TomTom. I don't know if you can get it if you dont subscribe, but it still asks you for the phone...

Also it acts as hands free (not sure if thats on all models).

Bluetooth is only available on the Tomtom GO range, not the tomtom one's, although their may be some kind of attatchment you can get.

As for the speed camera's, Halfords do a years subscription scratch card for £19.99.
