Ok I've got realllllllly confused!! But I think this one is the best buy. Taking into account critism of Tom Tom and general feedback all round!!

Found it here at what seems the best price too!

Garmin Nuvi 660 + GTM 21 Personal Travel Assistant

Garmin are excellent; especially with the TMC traffic cable ...

only downside I've found over gf's Tom Tom is that Garmin only allows 1 via point on a route (so 2 places total) where as TT allows many

go to / look up Halfords online as there advice plus free fitting is worth a few quid

Alan at Festival Park, Hanley Stoke-on-Trent is particularly knowledgeable, good at installs where airbags are involved

motorworld also sell Garmin but prices are higher

Decide what you want in terms of map coverage, traffic (recommended) & bluetooth phone compatibility then pick from range ...

200 series is basic with no traffic or bluetooth but small unit is nice

Nuvi has more feature, better case than c series but similar functionality

600 has widescreen which is unnecessary unless you have dodgy eyes (so shouldnt be driving anway)

- recommendation is the Nuvi 310T (UK maps) for £269 or 360T (Euro maps) for £329

if older case is not an issue & you dont need bluetooth, the c510D has traffic & is excellent value for c. £179

I have a Garmin 660 (bought for £390 before Xmas) and rate it highly. I value the larger screen. At the price quoted it sounds like a steal.

There is a further downside related to that already mentioned of only being able to have a destination and one stopover point - you cannot design routes on a PC and transfer them to the Garmin as you can to TT units. However, for normal use this is not an issue; if you have a sequence of stopovers you save them all in favourites before you set off, or just activate them in turn and then look for them in 'recent destinations'.

A very minor issue I have is that I generally mute the directions - in which case the phone is also muted, and I have to frantically unmute it if I notice on the screen that it is 'ringing'.

I don't use the MP3 player - if I wanted to the internal speaker would not be good enough. My unit does not have the FM broadcasting feature which now seems to have been introduced to UK models.

The 910 is the only unit worth buying, due to the US mapping (if you feel it's needed)

Garmin provide more for you're money, and overall seem to be much more reliable. The amount of tomtom's we get in that need resetting!

To an extent, it's just the name you're paying for, although they are much better than Navman and the like...
