Which Sat Nav?? - Help Needed
Discussion
My mad girlfriend wants to buy me a satnav and I really cannot decide which to go for.
I currently have a Talex speed camera detector and find the Talex camera database to be spot on and as I have 9 points on my licence its really important that I get one with an excellent camera database for both fixed and mobile camera sites. I thought of a Talex Sat but they are really expensive and the reviews are not great.
The second thing on my wish llst is TMC.
I only really need UK Maps and have upto about £200 to spend.
Does anybody have any thought of what I should go for?
Thanks for your help....

I have just upgraded to a Garmin 660FM (french bar stewards nicked my 660) and would agree that it is very good indeed. The FM adds transmission via (yep) FM so you get sound through your stereo, which I think will be essential for swift roof-down motoring. Maps are clear, but it is amusing to have road B1234 read as B one thousand two hundred and thirty four!
Speed camera locaters are updated regularly, but from time to time you are warned of say a 30mph zone when in fact the posted limit is 40mph - but whenever I am warned of a camera I check the signs and my speed anyway.
The "dashboard" display is useful abroad - it will show your speed in Kmh, so you can see at a glance quite how "naughty" you may be. Maximum speed achieved is useful and fun (to confirm that you have obeyed the limits, officer...), and can be quickly zeroed to eliminate evidence on the odd occasion
you may stray over the limit
Garmin on-line support is excellent - responding very quickly to my request that camera subscriptions be transferred to my new unit, and them agreeing to disable the old one (to frustrate the git who nicked it).
I found Halfords price very soft - I asked "is that your best price?" to which they promptly wiped £50 off the shelf price, and if I had been tougher there may have been £20 more. I had an internet quote in my pocket, but did not need to produce it, as they beat the best on-line price on their opening offer!

Interesting, Garmin didn't used to offer the FM feature in Europe. I hard wire my 600 to my head socket via the earpeice output but would be keen to hear what the radio reception is like on the move.Speed camera locaters are updated regularly, but from time to time you are warned of say a 30mph zone when in fact the posted limit is 40mph - but whenever I am warned of a camera I check the signs and my speed anyway.

Seems OK so far in my Z4, I'm particularly looking forward to using a 2Gb SD card full of MP3s in combination with the FM transmitter; works OK over the home stereo and on local journeys. I'll report back when I return from an impending 2000 mile + Euro drive; Garmin seem to have the built the rest of the unit to top quality, so the omens are good.Sortie 10 said:
