A simple Q.

Going to the US this fall. Do I buy, say a Tom Tom 920, in Blighty or add to hire car cost?

80 day trip - c$550 added to rental. So it's a stupid Q. Right?

Wouldn't you have to buy the US maps as well as the unit if bought in the UK? How much would they be?

Amazon have it for £299 so unless it is more than about £50 extra, I'd buy it. Don't know what the exchange rate is though.

Could buy one out there.

Teleatlas map for the US aren't great, Navteq is better. Order a Nuvi 670 or 370 online its not much more and loads better!

Thanks for the replies. I've looked at the Nuvis, and they do seem good. Plus I know people who have had Garmins and have good things to say (can't say the same for TTG!)

I know it's probably the older model and without some of the bells and whistles (which I don't need anyway) but I just found the 270 on Amazon for a penny less than £170. That's less than my expected hire car extra cost for a "Neverlost" by £100 - useful number of beer tokens for our Stateside trip!
