I need a sat nav....
Discussion
After a really bad day navigating around Dudley.
I need the following features, given I'm not a techy type;
Accuracy - obviously
speed camera locations - update-able
ability to re-calculate routes for closed roads etc,
to show true GPS speed.
it will be transferred between 2 cars, so will need windscreen bracket, suitable carry case.
Also needs to be below £200, ideally.
Hellfrauds have offers on Garmin 250? at £150 and a TomTom at about £180 at the moment - are these worth going for?
All help appreciated.

I bought a NavMan N40i a couple of weeks ago for £139.99 from eBuyer.
It's a big improvement over the Garmin i3 I previously used.
The N40i is a great deal as it includes full maps of western Europe on CD. The only extra you need is a big SD card to load them onto.
Also added the TMC module but haven't had to use that in anger as yet.

HI there
Maybe a bit over your top limit but I have a TomTom GO910. Used it in Spain and Portugal in the spring, and have just come back from a driving tour of the Deep South USA (Blues freak!!) and it never let me down once. In fact although I took plenty, I never used a map once.
Comes with Western Europe to street level and USA streetlevel maps.
Does all the speed camera stuff (downloadable) POIs, Bluetooth (for your mobile handsfree), even MP3s and pictures if you want.
Fits to the screen with a sucker attachment, comes with a protective case.
It's probably out of date by now as they seem to be updating them very regularly these days!!
Hope this helps

Phil - how good is the bluetooth in the Tomtom 910 - in terms of clarity for both you and the caller. The Tomtom range is being updated 520, 720 and very soon 920 which are slim and very attractive, but according to various forums seem to have a number of issues (poor quality sound for instructions and phone due to lack of space for speaker, unreliable TMC, weak fm transmitter etc) - The 910 now at the end of its run may have some special offers, and could be a good option.
Thanks, Gary

Bluetooth is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes it finds the phone other times it doesn't. Although I have to say it finds it more times than it doesn't.
Clarity is ok as long as you don't have an outrageous noisy engine. The speaker is fairly small so volume is limited.
I got a decent deal on mine on Amazon in the sale about a year ago. Less than £300.
But I'm sure with the new 'uns coming along and the prices being so competitive you'll get a deal either way.
As I say volume can be an issue, but if you miss the instruction first time, a touch on the bottom left of the screen will repeat it.
You won't miss the alarm for speed cameras though, scares the hell out of you.
Hope this helps.

It's great - saved me loads of time the day after I bought it going round Dudley area again.
I haven't been onto the website for updating downloads, so it's been caught out by the most recent road changes, but nothing major.
Calculates quickly, clear directions etc.
Definitely recommend it.
