TomTom Go 700 that is. I think it's a problem with the cable...

as it has done it in two different cars.

Anybody else had this problem? It can be a right pain in the arse if you're trying to navigate around London for instance.

Have the power problems with mine, but it's not the lead on mine that's the problem, the cradle that the unit sits into alows the tom tom unit to move a little, just enough to loose power. If it's the same problem, next time it happens very gently apply a little downwards pressure to the top of the unit, the green light will then come back on (contemplating using blu-tack as a quick fix)

Shouldn't it work anyway even if it's not in the cradle? Cheers for the pointer, I'll have a look.

You should have a green light on the power cable and the unit, so easily be able to tell if there's power going to it. I can't remember if this applies to the 700, but on the 710 there is a small rubber bung towards the back of where the cable sits. A lot of people take this out or it falls out, but if removed it gives the exact problems you're describing

The power loss on my tom tom(710) happens regardless of wether the rubber bung is in place or not.

Get a Garmin 660. My tomtom drove me mad with its unreliability and same goes for my mate that have em. Since getting the Garmin been able to relax always confident it will turn on. Tomtom 510 is a pile of shyte.
