I want to get my TOMTOM GO720 hard wired into my car (I think thats what you call it). Basically want no wires showing and also the handsfree microphone is not good (sounds like I'm miles away apparently) I want to get a decent microphone wired in as well. Has anyone got any experience of this or who should I speak to in Cheshire?
It's easy to do, but the thing to remember is not to cut of the lighter plug as it acts as a voltage dropper. Get hold of a lighter element (i.e a complete lighter unit) and wire that in instead. It will need a positive and an earth, which should ideally be taken off the main ignition wire and existing earthing point. Don't forget to put an inline fuse in, 20amps should be fine, and to check if the live is switched or permanent power. So you don't hardwire the unit as such, but wire in a socket under the dash and plug the unit into that
