Hi,
Thinking of getting a sat nav. I would really like it to have speed camera location on, and also traffic info ( and to auto - re-route if I am approaching a blocked motorway ). I only need UK mapping, but would really like the ability to buy European maps at a later date if I do need them.
Ideally I would like to be able to update both the camera and mapping data base at reasonable cost.
I spoke to Networx automotive as they have given me good advice on radar detectors etc in the past. I was advised to get a Road Angle 9000 or Snooper Syruis S2000. The Syruis would appear to be much cheaper to run in regards to updates etc.
Networx have offered me either for &299, minus &70 to trade in my old road angel ( which I will no longer need ).
Any comments from people who have used these?
Is this a good price, or will Halfrauds etc be cheaper? ( out the country at present, so cannot get there ).

Road Angel's price has dropped like a stone since launch for good reason I suspect, based on feedback I've read from early adopters on this forum. Camera alerts work fine, but navigation is more than a little iffy, it has been reported.

Great concept poorly executed seems to be the consensus.

Garmin 710T with camera alert sub from GPS world might fit the bill better? Handtec have them in the low 200s.

Stick with Garmin or TomTom, there are reasons why they are the two leading brands.

I spent months looking for exactly what you were looking for and drove my friends, family and girlfriend insane.

I finally got it down to a choice of two a Tomtom 520 or the new Snooper with TMC.

After much huffing and puffing I went for the tomtom 520 with tomtom traffic and downloaded the Pocket GPS database. The Pocket GPS database is great, be better if it was directional but then at the end of the day you cannot have everything.

The Tomtom 520 is an awesome bit of kit. My only issue is with the windscreen mount that comes with it, its about as much use as a Catholic priest in a brothel.

The Via Michelin unit has all the attributes you state and costs less than te equivalent Tom Tom, plus it supports bluetooth connection with your phone so can also be used as a hands free car kit.

One last question, who is doing the best deals. Internet or high street, or is it just a matter of shopping around?

I bought the ViaMichelin 970T with full European maps and the options you mention for £150 off "the net".

I have not been able to use it much yet to decide if it is a good un or not. One of the reasons for keeping the price down really - I won't use it that much. I like what I've seen of it so far. Seems fine.

Road angel = rubbish.

I have used one and never again will i attempt to. Since when is there a 30mph speed limit on a 4 lane motorway?

Apologies for the thread hijack, but it's kinda relevant. What is the name of the feature that let's you programme in specific routes beforehand, and which models have it? This is something I would want for when out hooning in a convoy.
Cheers

You can do it as an "itinery" on the TomTom (Go520 - cannot vouch for the others). These are waypoints to visit (e.g. junctions if following a convoy route), and you can put them into an order and then save the Itinery. Then you use this to set up your route. DISCLAIMER - I have only had the TomTom a week, and whilst I have set this up, I have yet to use it on the road to know if I have got it right!!

Chris - be really interested to hear how you get on with the Syrius as these were the 2 units I'm considering to upgrade from Tom Tom One, sounds like I can rule out the Road Angel.
