I bought a TalexLite speed camera detector just over 6 months ago. The Lite package didn't come with the USB cable. I now want to take advantage of the updates available to download but will need the cable to do so. I can buy a cable here http://www.activegps.co.uk/talex-lite-usb-data-cab... but at £16 + £4 P&P it's a bit steep.

I was wondering if anyone has a spare or no-longer-needed cable they would like to sell me? Please email via my profile.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't spend any more of your hard earned on Talex kit just yet. The company has been sold and updates are not yet available via the new website. It remains to be seen whether they ever will be.

I thought the kit came with the necessary software as well?

The USB cable came as part of the (optional) subscription kit

The 'Talex Lite' pack comes without the usb cable or software (this can be bought with the separate subscription pack which is now obsolete). The software is freely available to download to a PC and via the usb cable the latest database*** can be downloaded 'free for life' here:

USB drivers http://novusgps.com/usbdriver.zip
Talex http://novusgps.com/Talex_Update.zip
Talex lite http://novusgps.com/TalexLite_Update.zip

  • *I've read on another forum the database currently available was updated in Nov 07 - and it doesn't seem to be as accurate as the last official Talex database.
I think I'll hold on updated my Talex right now, but I'm still interested in getting hold of the cable though if anyone has a spare.

I received an invitation to register with Novus for 'free lifetime updates' in December (which I did). But today, I received another invitation from "Adam Blair, Founder, Talex Technology Ltd" offering a better service than the original Talex if I register and update from their site!
Has anyone else received / registed with these?

Hi Chim, I also got the e-mail from Adam Blair re: new updates. He is the person behind this company http://www.speedcameralocator.com/promo/
In case anyone didn't get the updates e-mail, this is what it said.....

(Cheers all, Jon smile)

"After working some seriously long hours over the past few days,
our technical bods (headed up by Umair) have got the Talex
Speed Camera Updates working so you can now download the
latest Speed Camera database to your Talex.

The current database is a slightly improved version of what we
bought from Embedded Technology (the previous owners of Talex).

However, in the next 28 days we will begin our "speed camera
domination" plan, the aim being to:

1) have EVERY SINGLE Speed Camera and known Mobile Speed
Trap site in the UK in the database

...and

2) remove the old "possible mobile speed trap" sites that are
no longer relevant

So if you already have an active subscription you are going to
notice big improvements over the next 90 days and beyond in
to the future.

If your subscription has expired then I seriously recommend
that you renew it NOW, by going to --

* http://www.talex.co.uk/UpdateMyTalex

We are investing a substantial amount of money in the database
in the coming months and ongoing in to the future but I am
NOT increasing the price so you are going to get some serious
value here.

What I want to do is make sure that you never get a Speeding
Ticket ever again, and that you are so impressed with your
little Talex that you tell anyone who will listen about how
great it is!

Happy driving, and thanks for your patience during the takeover,

All the best,

Adam Blair
Founder, Talex Technology Ltd

P.S. in case you haven't already got the Talex software
installed on your computer (you should have, unless you have
changed computers since getting your Talex), you can get it at
http://www.talex.co.uk/downloadarea/default.asp

The address to go to to renew your Speed Camera Database
subscription is... http://www.talex.co.uk/UpdateMyTalex

Cheers, Adam

Yes, that's the email Jon. I've already registered for the 'free for life' updates from the other lot, but was wondering about the legitimacy of their updates. I guess that we're seeing a couple of organisations that've picked up the Talex update business.

So ... If I send off for a subscription kit, USB lead etc, am I likely to receive it?

Beware! I have recently "updated" my Talexlite for the first time, paying £49.99 for three years subscription, on the understanding that the USB lead would be delivered as part of the deal - just as the original literature stated. The lead has not yet arrived and everytime I e-mail Talex to request the lead I get a sales pitch offering to buy may old model back for £60, if I agree to buy the new model for - you've guessed it ....£60! I've now written to them asking them to refund my £49.99 if they can't proved the lead. I'm still waiting ................

Contacting Novus Systems may be a good option they may be able to do the leads and the database is free and works on the old Talex units. I been testing it and I found no issues with the quality
