Bought Garmin Nuvi 760

Just an update, after reading the recent Autocar sat nav super test I decided to go for the Garmin Nuvi 760. It replaces the 660 and is a fantastic peice of kit. Bought from Halfords for £250 it has everything you'll ever neeed. Blutooth, media player, etc very easy to use interface and picks up cameras. So far so good.
It'll get a proper work out at the weekend when I head over to the west coast for some hooning antics in the noble.

Got a 770 2 weeks ago (Amazon £262.00)and it's simply brilliant, comes with full UK/European and USA mapping all preloaded.
Amazon do the 760 for £230 if you only need UK/European mapping.
It works straight out of the box on default settings which were pretty much spot on.
Went to the Garmin website and ran the auto updater.
It updated the Bluetooth/phone software & I downloaded speed camera updates
Love the Traffic delay report thingy which comes with lifetime free subscription.
Main thoughts are its so neat, stylish and user friendly, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it

Thinking of upgrading my 660T to a 760 or 770...
Is the power lead the same? I might give the old one away to my sister-in-law but ideally as part of the deal she can get her own power lead, meaning I can have one hard wired into the car and another for the work car. At the moment I just rely on the battery and forgo traffic updates.
Has anyone investigated the price of Garmin's mapping software? Would like to be able to plan and review routes on a PC rather than using the unit but understand that the software isn't part of the package.

Kevin if you have a copy of Autoroute you can do all your route planning with that. Occasionally the actual route chosen by the Nuvi differs slightly from the route chosen by Autoroute, but additional waypoints can force them to coincide to a greater degree.
All you need to convert the Autoroute .axe file to a Nuvi friendly .csv file is a freely downloadable utility caled ITNConv available from http://benichougps.blogspot.com/

Just got a 760 myself, upgrading from a rather large and lethargic Streetpilot3. Just returned from a 1400 mile, three day trip to N.Germany without a single problem, took me to every door I asked it to. Top marks to Garmin!!!! Would love to find some compatible German Scamera data if anyone knows where to look? Garmin don't appear to haveve any.

)Its a cracking peice of kit, does exactly what it says on the tin and some. It hasn't got me lost yet.
The only bad point I have found is that it can be a bit difficult to tell how far you are away from some places (when you're zoomed in on the map) by just looking at the graphics alone.

I see that they have now included a speed limit sign on the readout, where the information is available. So far this only seems to be available on motorways, though I expect that in time, updated maps will extend the coverage.
One thing I have noticed is that there are still errors in the map. Whenever I take a specific shortcut on my way home, the unit will try and take me down a small road back on to the original route, and I know for a fact that the small road it is trying to take me down is a dead end, and not a through road.
As the information is supplied by Navteq, I guess this will apply to any manufacturers using Navteq maps, not just Garmin.

The 760 does sound like a super buy. However, for those willing to wait (and pay more), the 860 is round the corner and looks like costing somewhere around £350-400. It offers speech recognition though (fully so, it appears), hence the relatively higher cost. Reviews have been very good though, and the spec (via the Garmin site) looks very impressive.
I don't know either, and the only place I've see it advertised is Expansys.

The 860 is officially available in May, but I've got a London-based sales outlet checking for me and have been promised an update next week. I hope they'll have some in then - once I know, I'll update this, and maybe do a review in a separate thread.
