Tom tom speed reading info needed
Discussion
The sample rate of the GPS signal isnt really fast enough to be 100% reliable while slowing or speeding up. Best bet, and something I found worked quite nicely is to find a nice quiet bit of road, and go at the significant speeds (30, 50, 70 etc) and make a good mental note of the revs in each gear. Then you know what speed you are doing without having to focus on the 5mm figures in the corner of the TomTom.
Usually Satnav units sample at about 1 time per second which will not help too much with speed display when accelerating (unless you drive a Nissan Serena in which case it'll be fine
).
For a much more accurate speedo try a driftbox, http://www.driftbox.com/ IIRC the sampling rate is 10 times per second which will keep pace with your acceleration.
