Doubtless this is a FAQ, for which I apologise.

I need a portable satnav which is (easily) capable of having maps for the UK and the Eastern USA loaded into it - perhaps by swapping SD cards or similar. I would prefer not to have to connect it to a PC to do this. I need no other features; I don't need (another) phone, I don't care about traffic reports, I'm not *that* bothered about speed camera locations (although that would be nice.) It must be easy to operate - I'm a geek, but my wife isn't.

I've looked at the "What Tom-Tom" page and now I know how people must feel when I talk about computers - I have no idea what most of it is about. Would I be better off, for example, buying a cheapo UK-only one (especially since I have a Satnav built in my Discovery, which is stuff-all use in the other car(s)) and a cheapo US-only one?

Snooper offer a 2gb mini SD Card with maps of North America and Canada. Maps are supplied by NAVTEQ and offer street level detail. The card will fit into Strabo S350 (limited availability, but great value)Syrius S500 (also limited, not as cheap but with a 4.3" widescreen and FREE lifetime safety camera updates)and Syrius Plus and Proline(widely available. The SD card can quickly and easily be swapped with a UK & Ireland card that all the units come supplied with. Hope that helps.

"Please note: this is a revised unit and doesnt include an SD card as the maps are preloaded onto the unit"

No use to me. Sorry.
