IHaving recently bought a TT1 V4 I am familiarising myself with its many features. I have found the POI function and the ability to find petrol stations very useful but I do have a problem. I am a bit of a petrol snob and only use Shell V-Power fuel. Isthere any wat I can get the POI to identify the petrol station company in order to locate the nearest Shell garage? My colleague with a different sat nav can do this, is it possible on a TT1?

You need to download a Shell-only POI database then, rather than the all petrol stations database.
AFAIK the POI database doesn't know which stations are which, hence it can't let you select specific ones.

You could create your own and attach the familiar shell logo to the POI alert.

I'm the same - Shell only...I use the TTv4 too :-)

TomTom Home allows you to download a free Shell POI database. Then it's simply a matter of searching - and you can choose "find - nearest to me" option.

Sorry if I'm being thick but I can't find the Shell POI on Tomtom Home, where is it?

I have kind of answered my own question as I have found a POI database on the shell website (which should be better than the homemade ones on Tomtom Home).

I have downloaded a an OV2 file and a bitmap image, how do I load these onto my Tomtom?

Connect your TomTom to your computer and then navigate to the map folder on the device (mine is called Western Europe IIRC) and simply copy those two files into that.

Once you've done that you can switch on the TomTom and change the POI preferences to show the Shell stations.

How do I get the Shell logo bitmap to work with the POI database? Does it need configuring or dropping in a different folder?

AFAIK if the POI file is written properly then the logo should appear on the screen. Well they do on my 730.

poi's are showing as red squares rather than the shell symbol! I dropped both files into the map file as suggested on the above post! Any ideas?

Got the POI from Shell website so you'd expect it to work surely?

You'd expect it to be okay from the Shell site. Maybe it's a hardware/firmware requirement - i.e. the TT One may not have the 'full' software/hardware to take advantage of custom icons?

Try removing the BMP file and see what icon shows up - if it's the same, then it's probably the above.

You could always ask in the TomTom forum on http://www.yournav.com/
