I have an old Garmin StreetPilot III, the mapping of which can be loaded to a PC/Notebook for route planning. Does anyone have anything similar from the new crop of units?

If you've got a copy of MS Autoroute, it's possible to pre-plan routes on that and then export them to a sat nav unit.

To do so you first need to convert Autoroute's .axe file to a format acceptable to the particular sat nav you use. A freely downloadable utility called ITNConv can do this. Google it or search on here for more information about it.
