I have never had a SatNav as I hardly ever drive outside of London ( which I know pretty well ) . However, a recent trip outside of London that involved many scary circumnavigations of Bracknel and other places that I had no intention of going to made me realise that I should really get with the 21st century & buy a SatNav. I would like to buy one off Ebay because I have some PayPal funds burning a hole in my cyberpocket, I don't need anything too fancy or expensive, just something easy to use. The budget options seem to be :

Road Angel Navigator 6000 @ £70 & £400 P&P

Sony Nav-U NV U53 XL ( impressive array of initials in the name! ) @ £60 & £6 P&P

Tom Tom One @ £59 & £9.99 P&P

any thoughts on those?? Remember - easy to use ( idiot-proof ) is the key word here.

Many thanks in-advance.

The P&P on the Road Angel Navigator 6000 seems expensive, so best to avoid that one. I hate Ebayers that clearly make a profit out of postage charges! hehe

Seriously, you can't go wrong with TomTom. Is a brand new, re-furbed, second user? Check what version the TomTom One is as the funtionality changes on the V3 & V4 models, but also an older version would have older maps.

better off buying a later version as those maps are going to be a good few years out of date. Current version is the TT One version 4 for around £80.

That's the original TomTom One Version 1 (V1), the current model is the V4 so the maps may be a little out of date (but how many roads get re-routed or new one built in the UK each year?).

I know you said you've got PayPal money to spend but have a look at TotalPDA as they do a lot of similar refurbished models http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom.10026/

They have the same model TomTom One V1 currently cheaper http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom/TomTom-ONE-First-...

I've used them a few times and if you need any advice they are superb, so prehaps give them a call & have a chat anyway

I've recently bought another system from them, a TomTom Go 720 that will allow me to download the latest map & software updates making it the same as the current Go730 model, but for £100 less.

Hope this helps.

My research into TomTom Ones has revealed that the latest version (V4) weighs about two-thirds of the V3.

That's quite a difference if you're going to take it with you when you leave the car.

Stay away from the sony satnavs, as well as beeing very user unfriendly i was speaking to a sony rep the other day and thay are no longer making sat navs so you will not be able to update the maping or software at a later date.
just to let you know if you are looking at a tomtom v3, you get 30 free of charge to up date the maping and speed camras the only thing thay have acctualy changed on the v4 is the look and design, all the interface is the same. imo garmin are the ones to go for there the only satnav to do Fixed and mobile speed camras throuout there range.
Hope this helps.
