Tom Tom One XL & European Maps

Hopefully straightforward questions...
I have just got a Tom Tom One XL with the SD slot. It has come with the standard UK and Ireland maps loaded on the card and its fine for most of my trips. However, if I wanted to load the maps for France, Germany, France and Italy, is this something I can do from the web for free or do you have to buy a download?
Or do I have to get another SD card with the European maps on and use that in the unit? If so, are the UK maps on the same card?
