I know its a long shot but I bought a stereo system with motorisded satnav and have no idea how to install it into my car. Its my first car and I love music (and actually arriving where im sposed to be going) so I bought it hoping I could do it myself and if noot get a professional to do it. wrong. I was quoted at £250.

Does anyone know of a cheap installation service or even of any guides that help you throught it cosh I have mates that have done their own stereo's but never satnav stereo's so they said they'd help me but not know how helpful they can be.

My car is an OLD peugeot 306 and my satnav is an alpine.

It also came with a cd changer and a mapping dvd reader but its not looking likely I can do those myself. Have applyed to pimp my ride :P but in the likely case this fails I hoped someone out there will have some kind of helpful information.

Which one. Shouldnt be too difficult. Should be head unit with cables attached and a sattelite pick-up to be placed on dash or windscreen?

Its a
Alpine voice navigation system NVE NO77PS
Alpine motorised display / head unit mobile media station 45w x4 CVA 1003R
Alpine CD changer CHA 5624

the car is a 1996 306 XN

basically it is a stereo with a motorised screen that comes out, so im noot sure of the connections to the satnav side of the stereo, and things like where do you put the satnav reciever, have been told bout putting them behind a dashboard vent but not sure how praticle this is.

btw thanks alot for the speedy reply.

Ok for a start putting the reciever behind a vent is a bad idea as that will block the signal as sat nav is line of sight. Mounting it TO the dash or better yet to the window is a better option as you will get better reception.

As for connecting it up I have no idea if those pieces of kit go together but I would guess so and if thats the case it should be a very simple task of matching plug to socket.

Have you got the dash insert for the stereo?

You then have the issue of theft - although it'll probably be obvious anyway.

Are you planning any other audio upgrades, or just a stock system otherwise?

Surely that lot must've cost more than the car!!

Good point!! You want to check with your insurer as most only cover only a small amount in terms of stereo cover.

hahaha good point, its got a removable faceplate, alarm, central locking, and blatent imobaliser, so im hoping that little anti theft cocktail will deter theives

also the car cost £550 :P which is a fair price i think as its in fine condition (touch wood) but has rather high milage (87,000)

the whole kit an kaboodle cost me £130 from an ebay auction which i see as a very reasonable price as its in near new condition.

so you think that it would be wise to attach the reader to my dashboard? because I can see it getting knocked about abit which is why i was hoping for keeping it out the way.

also my insurance is only 3rd party so its not an issue of if theyd covver it. they wont.

Yes attach it to the dash if you must or in your place I would put it discreetly in the top/bottom left or right hand corner of the windscreen running the wire for it back down under the pillar trim under the dash to the back of the reciever/stereo unless you are planning on putting the disk reader in the boot in which case same applies but to rear window instead. No wires and nothing in the way.
You could if you really fancy it stick it to the windscreen behind the rearview mirror running the wire back under the roof trim down the pillar to back of reciever/stereo.This will make it a bit more discreet than in a corner where it would seem out of place. Options are limitless but it needs to have clear sky to operate.

I am no expert but these systems are fairly self explanetary and simple to install if you are prepared to take the time.

yuha was all boxed so im really pleased, great ebay seller.

the one down side is no mp3 input like an aux input, but I herd that you can simply plug in aux wires behind the stereo an you can have them just sorta dangling around but I will see if i can neaten them somehow.

yuha I heard its not that hard but what others consider not that hard and what I consider it.

Im hoping my mate will have more expertiese but what sorta thing is it generally, like colour coding wires?

cosh great help the manuals where. they only said about how to use noot how to install it.

ahh well will be an experence, and hopefully it wont blow the circuits of the car like a mate of a mate did. Plan is to disconnect battery first. but I reckon thats the whole point of a cheap first car, to do things yourself an get more used to its workings.

Oh and applyed to pimp my ride UK as a backup so if I cock it up hopefully westwoods on his way :P

Shouldnt need to colour code any wires. You should be able to buy adapters for it all if not supplied with the kit. As said should all be plug and play. When were you planning on installing it and where are you located and i may be able to pop round and take a look maybe give a hand?

Depends on whether each item draws its own power or whether they all run off the stereo's power. Other than that it's all plug and play. Satnav doesnt require positioning other than the ariel to be in a line of sight position which is why windscreen mount is to be honest the best option as it doesnt create clutter on dash and is also more discreet..
