I bought an SD card at a car boot sale with these maps on, but can't get them to work. It seems they need to be registered. Does anyone know a way aound this registration? :-)

They are probably registered already, to the original buyer, and can be very difficult to re-register on a different device, TT are very strikt on their softwares.
I know people who have bought TT software to use on mobiles, and once the mobile gets upgraded to a new one, the maps won't work, and TT usually do not really want to help.
It may be worth giving them a call though.

It largely depends on which version of map you have. TT5 and 6 have easy crack programmes available all over the internet, 7 and 8 can be cracked but it is a bit more hit and miss. TomTom will allow you to use a different device but you have to wait 6 months from the original registration (in the case of a PDA or smartphone anyway). Hope you didn't pay too much for the maps!

BTW, it is possible to download maps from various places, so I'm told. never tried it myself as it's too much hassle biggrin

Thanks folks!

It's v8.18 TomTom Western Europe for TomTOm One (I've got a v1). I've got the UK maps and am going to France in the summer, so thought these would be a good buy. There's no registration card, box or manual which is a shame.

Sounds like this card is just binnable then? Really disappointing as I knew I could remove the old card and thought this would just be as easy as putting this one in :-(

You need to check if the map version is compatible with the software you have.

There's a (slightly illegal) way to get it working, if you search out a website about GPS, and being sub-terra.

If the SD card has been used it can not be used. As it will have been registered and activated.

IF sealed, then you can go to the tOMtOM web site and acivate the card as long as you have the product code

sometimes it will activate automatically

try www.ttcom.com
