Scenic route / Tourist trail on a nuvi 215? - Confused!
Discussion
Having scenic drives and tourist routes on a sat nav seems a pretty basic requirement to me - but as far as I can see from the very limited instuctions that came with our nuvi215 there's nothing like that pre programmed on there.
Any programmable info on routes somewhere? Or if not, HTF do you manually programme in multiple destinations before you start your trip say, from a touring guide or maybe make up your own route from an atlas and programme in each town, village or road junction in turn?
Got to the stage this morning where I either give up trying or stamp on the poxy thing and go back to a road atlas - is this really not possible or am I missing some feature or instruction on the nuvi?
Cheers Chaps

Re scenic routes garmin only have fast and shortest.Mind you whatever you input if you are out of town garmins love narrow hedgerow country lanes .I liked my nuvi210 but got rid of it because of that.Lots of posts about that on here.
Indeed.
In a recent amble round Dorset ours took us for a few miles down a lane so narrow we had to fold both door mirrors back and still had bushes scraping both sides of the car. f
k knows what to do if something had come the other way. A quick glance at the road atlas (my fault I didn't) would have got me not even thinking about that particular route. Surely it's possible for a bit of inteligent programming? OK so the Garmin is brilliant for finding a hotel in the dark and pouring rain in a town we've never visited before - but on the whole the more I use it the more reasons I can find for leaving it in the glovebox most of the time.

Don't most have a source of downloadable routes you can try?
Otherwise, I tend to do my planning on a large scale map and then input waypoints into the sat nav.
That's exactly what I want to do - but just can't work out how you input multiple destinations, it just won't accept more than one. There's hardly any instructions except a quick start guide in the box and I can't make sense of the information and map resources on the Garmin website either.Otherwise, I tend to do my planning on a large scale map and then input waypoints into the sat nav.
f
king hopeless. All I need is a few sentences of information and instruction and perhaps an explanation of what a microSD card is and where it goes or what you do with it and a picture showing me where the USB socket is on the nuvi and how I connect the nuvi to the computer and maybe then I'd be able to work out how to download and edit maps to do what I want with it.This assumption by the manufacturers that everybody understands their technology and knows how to use and benefit from it without any simple guidelines really pisses me off. It might well be simple to do once you know how to but I've spent hours fiddling with the poxy thing and so far it's beyond me.
Going back on the Garmin site again now just to see if there's anything else I've missed that'll help

Your 215 does not allow you to download specific routes, waypoints etc using Mapsource - you need the 7xx Nuvi series and the 14xx/1500 or Zumo. The choice on Nuvis is rather mindboggling!!
However, the 215 does allow, according to the web page, the Panoramio programe which down loads Tourist sites from Google Maps. As I say, use the web page and follow the links.

wanted to update mine nuvi 200w after spending a lot of time on there website gave up nothing in instructions which came with it there is no usb slot but there is a large slot looks like for some sort of card but could not find any reference to this anywhere!
just use me map for main part of journey and use satnav for final part seems to work out ok for me.

jaguarsteve.....gotta agree that the manufacturers a/ dont make things easy to understand b/ havent worked out that there's many folks out there that want more than A-B routing. I bought a Snooper Sat Nav after a lengthy conversation with sales guy - now having to sell it as it also won't load multiple way points, nor can you load a route to it. Naively i'd thought most units these days would be like a tom tom that i'd borrowed about 3 years ago which i loaded a route from google onto. I'm also surprised that none that i've seen has a one touch facility to log a point of interest.....driving along in a new area, you see a pub or something that looks like its worth a revisit, hit the button, log it and return another day: But as far as i can see most POI's that can be loaded requires the user to go through 2-3 screens, really easy in a sports car on the move!
In the TomTom range also you have to be careful to buy a suitable model if you want this feature. TT call it itinerary planning, and the low end TT Ones do not have it. It you have a Tomtom or Garmin with itinerary planning, you can either set the route on the device or on a PC; I recommend a free PC software utility called TYRE for creating, editing and downloading routes.
If you don't have this feature, I recommend you to set each waypoint on your tour as a destination before you set off, setting them in reverse order, and setting your first waypoint last before you set off; then as you get close to each point you do Navigate to Recent Destination, and select the next destination from the list. I have used this approach when using built-in satnavs, which rarely have the route/itinerary feature.

Which site did you use ??just use me map for main part of journey and use satnav for final part seems to work out ok for me.
Garmin UK site and Nuvi 200W and there you can down load the manual.
It also states you have a usb slot (that's what powers it in the car??) and SD card slot ??
Have a look: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/nuvi200_OwnersManua...
