The battery on my Tom Tom lasts no more than 24hrs (without use) before needing recharging.... is this usual?

I think it should last several weeks. It sounds as though your battery is dead. I had a dead battery in a 2 year old unit. It was suggested that this might be because I had sometimes allowed it to run down completely; apparently it is better to keep these batteries topped up. Officially, it costs a completely unrealistic amount to replace these batteries, but it can be done unofficially for much less.

Google it. I found fairly detailed instructions, as a result of reading which I decided it was not a job for me.

This is where to obtain the battery:

Apart from this I don't have any other info as I have never done it, but I was gearing up to until the whole unit died on me one night due to another, unrelated, fault. (whilst in the middle of nowhere...)
