Looking at a 950....what i'd like is to have the unit on all the time (even if dont need directions) but get camera alerts - can it do alerts when not "directing"?

Also - when directing i dont want the voice (screen image is all i need) but i DO want camera alerts to be audible.....on my iphone tomtom the audio is all or nothing - so no voice directions means no camera alerts.

I have a 750 and it'll warn of cameras if you don't have a route planned.

I also think you can turn the two sounds of independently, e.g voice off, other sounds on

From when I looked, yes, I think that's the only difference.
P.S. If you get the 750, get another microSD card (4gb) as the latest map update doesn't fit on the internal memory (unless they've fixed it)

will do.

You happy with it - aside from the big map!

(what "cradle" does it come with? - i want to hard wire it in and wondered if i would need to buy extra bits or if it comes with a holder that that can be done with?)

Yes, very happy. Came from a Civic with built-in.

The "cradle" is this one...

and has a mini-usb car charger
i assume you could use one of these to wire it in

I have a 950. I confirm that you can turn off voice directions, while leaving sound on for camera warnings (this was not the case on earlier TT's).

Apart from the US maps, the other feature of the 950 which is not on the 750 is Enhanced Positioning Technology - that is why I went for the 950. This uses motion sensors to estimate your position when the unit is not getting a satellite signal, such as in a tunnel. I have not made a direct comparison between units with and without this feature to decide how much difference it makes.

750 will do i think....i dont drive in the US and i can make it through tunnels ok!

The main thing was the audio...does my head in to have the directions read out, all i need is a screen...but then i missed the sat navs on my iphone tomtom because the audio is all or nothing.
