iPhone / Speed Camera App
Discussion
Can anyone recommend a decent-ish app for iPhone that gives notice of speed cameras? I know the TomTom app does it, but does it do a good enough job? Or is there a decent alternative for more/similar/less money?
I know I could spend ages reading reviews in the app store but I'd rather get feedback from fellow PH'ers if possible.
Thanks!

Yes, Pocketgpsworld have released some software to do that. Their database is about the best out there.
£20 per year (Around about that price I seem to remember) and £0.59 for the iPhone app...
Only problem is you cant run it at the same time as the sat nav programme so it will only be a camera warning system...
(until Apple introduce multi tasking...)

Thanks for that. I downloaded it and you get one free update of the database when you register (for free) which I did. On a drive today it picked up all the statics and warned of several mobile sites. No, it can't do SatNav but I've got that built-in anyway.

There is a new app called Speedwatch on iTunes which trumps all others in my experience. It has all the static, red light and mobile cameras across 26 countries and the app also notifies of live mobile cameras as reported by users and also has pre populated data for mobile locations that are advertised for a given day!!
You dont have to buy the app to start with and thats a pretty cheap shot by pocketgpsworld to do so and then ask for a subscription in my eyes.
Speedwatch updates itself on a live basis both for it's inherent database of locations as well as live user reported mobile sites. The data transfer rates are also extremely small so will cause no problems with users data packages, even if they aren't on an unlimited data deal.
All in all an excellent service and would recommend it to everyone.

I've been looking through all of these trying to find the best/worst and what makes them good or bad. I feel like there might be room for improvement as I don't think many are very good for actual use in a car, apart from maybe the TomTom app.

iPhone Speed Camera Apps:
TomTom Speed Camera App: Reasonable interface, free for 12 months, then £? after.
SpeedWatch: UI not great, doesn't really even seem to load for me. Subscription costs ?.
CamerAlert/PocketGPSWorld: Poor UI, costs around £20/year. £0.59 for the App.
Trapster: Nice enough UI, not convinced a map is that useful while driving. Probably the best overall currently?

Waze is a social SatNav app and does this well. In fact the app is so good I've found I only reach for my TomTom when on long drives or driving in areas with poor 3G.

Takes a fresh view of mapping and is extremely good.
