I am buying a Mercedes CLC, which doesn't have a cigarette lighter, but it does have a 12 volt socket in one of the storage spaces. Does anyone know of an adapter which can be used to charge my TomTom in the car?

12 volt sockets in cars are generally identical to cigarette lighter sockets, so the standard plug which comes with satnavs would fit. Do you have reason to think the Merc socket will be any different?

I'd be surprised if you don't have a standard cigar lighter socket. There is, however, a very similar German DIN standard socket made by Hella for connecting things on boats, caravans, motorcycles etc. Google search for "Hella socket" produces 61 hits.

Had a quick look when I had a test drive and it didn't look like a cigarette lighter socket. I get the car the beginning of June so will find out then. I wont be needing the sat nav for the first few weeks, so not a big problem.

Thanks guys for the replies.
