Finding a TYRE created file on my Garmin nuvi 255

I have recently discovered TYRE software for creating route files compatible with Garmin systems I have downloaded the file onto the sat nav and can see that is it there when exploring the system via my computer. However, how on earth do I get the sat nav to actually run / find the map??

Even though tyre has transferred the file to the Garmin, you still need to import the route on the Garmin itself.

It's something like, Tools, MyData, Import Route from File ....

I think then it will appear in the list of custom routes.

Thanks for the reply, but my sat nav doesn't have the relevant option in the My Data section

I think you may be out of luck.

Just been searching, and it appears that the 200 series Garmins don't have the ability to use loaded routes.

Ahh, that would explain it!

Thanks for all the help. Are there any cheapy Garmins / Tom Toms out there that I could get just for this purpose?

You'd need to check to be sure, but as far as I know all TomToms can accept predefined routes.

From the Garmin site, it looks like all Garmins EXCEPT for the 200 series can do it.

Best thing is to check the manual for the one(s) in your budget.

Was not true a few months ago, so probably is still not true. The One and the XL Classic did not do 'Itineraries'.

I think you will find they both can.

Look in the section for Advanced Route Planning, it shows the ability to Load / Save / Delete Itineries etc

In fact both the One and XL have very similar menus.


The only TomTom that appears NOT to have this ability is the TomTom Start.

I think this illustrates how difficult it is to know which TT models have the itinerary planning feature. Early TT Ones had it, later ones did not. EG The TT One V3 manual does not refer to this feature.
